A Better Place

This tapestry is my first work of this kind. It features cosmos flowers, which were my mother's favorite. She lost her battle with cancer in 2021, and I created this tapestry imagining where she is now. Losing a loved one is excruciating but knowing and believing that she is in a much much better place than where she used to be, makes me feel better. While sorting through my mother's art studio, I discovered a collection of vintage silk kimono swatches that had been passed down from my grandfather. I began exploring my ancestry and the history of these kimono swatches while also creating artworks through appliqué.
